Lesson 5 comprises the Spearman
Rho, Pearson, the quartiles, deciles, percentiles and others. This lesson is
quite interesting and different from our previous topics. Some of us find it easy.
No items to memorized and less effort to comprehend such elongated phrases.
At first, the formula seems to be
complicated for it includes neither locating the quantile nor locating the
scores. Fortunately, we realized that it’s easy and fun to solve those
equations. We’ve learned that the test must be validated and validity is
supposed to be measured. We are also introduced to the content validity,
criterion-related validity and concurrent validity which are the types of
validity.

In Module 4: Development of Assessment Tools, we have been discussed the different types of test in assessing the students performance in classroom. We have learned that there are rules that we must consider in constructing a tests such as Filling the blank test, True-False test, Multiple Choice test, Matching type test, Analogy, Cloze test, and Identification test. But the most important thing that must observe in making a test is that, the Instruction must be clear to the test takers. By those rules we can easily make a test questionnaires and it is a big help for us students to become an effective teachers for the next generations.

There are two types of measurement the Norm-referenced test and the Criterion-referenced test.
Test is an instrument or systematic procedure designed to measure the quality, ability, skill or knowledge of students by giving a set of question in a uniform manner.
Testing is a method used to measure the level of achievement or performance of the students. In assessment there are four types, the Placement Assessment,Diagnostic Assessment,Formative Assessment and Summative Assessment.
From Establishing the Learning Targets,an instructional objectives play a very important role in instructional process and evaluation process. In the characterestics of a well-written objectives it should meet the following criteria:1.describe the learning outcome 2.be student oriented 3.be observable 4.be sequantially appropriate 5.be attainable within a reasonable amount of time 6.be developmentally appropriate.
There are factors to consider when constructing good test items, the validity, reliability, administrability, scorability, appropriateness, adequacy, fairness and objectivity.
Module 1: OVERVIEW IN ASSESSMENT OF
LEARNING
In module 1, we define and differentiate the commonly used terms of in Assessment tools. Below are the definition of terms.
Assessment-
refers to the process of gathering, describing or qualifying information about
the student performance.
Measurement- is a process of obtaining a numerical
description of the degree to which an individual possesses particular
characteristics.
Evaluation- is the process of examining of the
performance of the student.
Test- is an instrument or systematic
procedure design measures the quality, ability, skill, or knowledge of the
student by giving a set of question in a uniform manner.
Testing- is a method used to measure the level
of achievement or performance of the learners.
The difference between two terms:
v Assessment of Learning- is a building block by which one introduces the idea of assessment
for the learning.
v Assessment for Learning- is a process where the students are assessed in order to
enhance the teacher- learning process guided by the principle that education is
a lifetime activity.
There are also types of measurement in terms of interpreting the student performance in relation to
classroom instruction.
1.
Norm- Reference Test- is attest design to measure the
performance of the student compared with the other student. Each individual is accompanied with other examinees and assigned a score- usually express as
percentile, a grade equivalent score. (e.g. NAT, NCAE)
2.
Criterion- Referenced Test- is a test designed to measure the
performance of the student with respect to some particular criterion or
standard. Each individual is compared with a predetermined set of standard
for acceptable achievement. ( e.g. TESDA ).
*Here are some of the assessment tools to improve the teaching- learning process.
